Beginning in kindergarten at WDS, enrichment classes in Spanish, science, music and art are scheduled throughout the week. In grades 5-8, students enroll in a weekly two-hour elective in a topic such as sculpture, theater, dance and choreography, gardening or carpentry. All boys and girls take part in the school's library program beginning in preschool. In addition to course work in the core subjects, high schoolers are encouraged to take classes in the arts each year. Students in grades 7-12 must perform 50 hours of annual community service, divided into 25 on-campus hours and 25 off-campus hours.
