Winchester Thurston School

555 Morewood Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15213

WT derives from schools begun by Alice Thurston and Elizabeth and Mary Mitchell. The college preparatory curriculum emphasizes experiential learning and includes process writing, a hands-on science program, a literature-based reading and English program, applied and conceptual mathematics, and global awareness. Advanced Placement courses are offered, as is a bridge and tutoring program that provides one-on-one tutoring for students with learning differences. An array of visual and performing arts classes complement the academic program. Located in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh, the school's main campus, serving students in grades pre-K-12, utilizes the many cultural, technological and educational resources of the area. In 1988, the school established the North Hills campus for children in grades pre-K-5 in Allison Park. Both campuses utilize the same curriculum and faculty, and students have access to the opportunities and resources of each location. An extended-day program is available each day before and after school.
