Whitby School

969 Lake Ave, Greenwich, CT 06831

The oldest Montessori school in the country, Whitby continues to follow the fundamental principles of this educational method while also incorporating International Baccalaureate curricular elements. The school's multi-age approach allows students to stay with the same teacher for two to three years, thus enabling the instructor to follow each child's progress through an entire developmental cycle. The primary (ages 3-6) and lower school (grades 1-4) divisions follow the IB Primary Years Program, while the middle school curriculum (grades 5-8) utilizes the IB Middle Years Program. The transdisciplinary IB programs emphasize holistic learning, intercultural awareness and communicational skills. The sharing of values and the development of a sense of community are integral parts of school life. The 25-acre campus, located in the backcountry of Greenwich, has its own pond, woods and playing fields. Students enroll from Fairfield and Westchester counties.
