Washington International School

3100 Macomb St NW, Washington, DC 20008

WIS provides an international education for both American and international students, offering the cultural richness of an international staff and a curriculum that draws upon different educational traditions. The primary school program includes language immersion classes in the prekindergarten and kindergarten, and children in grades 1-5 follow a bilingual curriculum with half the instruction in English and the remainder in French, Spanish or, for native speakers, Dutch. Intensive courses in Spanish and English are available for new pupils in grade 2-5. History and geography are taught in French and Spanish through grade 8, although English-language sections are also available for newly enrolled students. WIS offers the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program in grades pre-K-5. In their last two years of the upper school, all students follow the IB Diploma Program, a rigorous, comprehensive course of studies recognized by many colleges around the world. The school maintains two locations: Grades pre-K-5 are located on the primary school campus at Reservoir Road and 36th Street NW, while middle and upper school classes and activities take place at Tregaron, a 20-acre former residential estate in the northwestern part of the city.
