Located adjacent to the Charles River, Walker is a day and residential treatment center that serves children with severe emotional, behavioral and learning disorders. Residential units provide three levels of services: intensive residential, with a goal of stepping down to less restrictive programs; residential services, with a goal of increased community involvement; and acute residential services for children ages 3-10, with a goal of stabilization and assessment at times of crisis. The year-round school includes afternoon activities and summer programs. The treatment approach emphasizes milieu, family, individual and group therapy; specialized pediatric and psychiatric care; and a strong academic curriculum with emphasis on the remediation of language-based learning disabilities. Through its division of Walker Partnerships, Walker offers transition and support services to students, families and educators involved in public school inclusion. The school accepts the following conditions: ADHD, Anxiety Disorders, Asperger's Syndrome, Auditory Processing Disorders, Autism, Conduct Disorder, Emotional Disturbances, Mood Disorder, Nonverbal Learning Differences, Obsessive/Compulsive Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Pervasive Development Disorder, Psychosis, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Sexually Abused, School Phobia.
