Located on the 64-acre site of Archwood Farm, Wakefield helps boys and girls in all three school divisions master content, develop sound study habits and learn to think independently. Notable aspects of the curriculum include inquiry-based science classes, an English curriculum in grades 1-12 that focuses on the acquisition and development of writing and communicational skills, and a program emphasis on interdisciplinary connections. Upper school students choose from a wide array of Advanced Placement courses and electives. Middle school children (grades 6-8) take part in an annual week of experiential learning opportunities. The student chooses his or her offering from a selection that includes adventure, knowledge acquisition, culture and service options. Beginning either in the summer preceding senior year (for the honors version) or at the start of grade 12, Wakefield's yearlong Senior Thesis Project requires pupils to explore a topic of deep personal interest and report on it comprehensively. In completing the project, boys and girls employ the tools of interdisciplinary research, original composition, and multimedia and written presentation. The resulting thesis is the equivalent of a 15- or 30-page college paper (for the standard and honors versions, respectively). At the conclusion of the school year, students present their work to various audiences within the academic community.
