Trevor Day School

1 W 88th St, New York, NY 10024

Founded as a nursery school called The Day School, the institution expanded its program through grade 8 in the 1960s, and a high school division was added in 1991. The school assumed its present name in 1997. Trevor maintains a low student-teacher ratio, allowing for activity-based, experiential learning. The program emphasizes critical-thinking, time-management and collaborative work skills. Ample opportunities in the arts and other areas include dance, drama, choral music, instrumental music and ensembles, filmmaking, photography, student government, publications and a full sports program. A spring mini-term in grades 4-8 offers enrichment courses in subjects outside of the standard curriculum. Service learning activities begin in grade 1. Boys and girls in grades 6-12 perform at least 20 hours of service each year, and seniors may elect to undertake an independent project. An after-school program for younger children is available, and an outdoor education program serves pupils in grades 2-12. All students in grades 5-12 purchase laptop computers through the school. Joined facilities on East 89th and East 90th streets house nursery through grade 5.
