Summit, which serves students with specific learning disabilities, emotional challenges or both, enrolls boys and girls from all five New York City boroughs, as well as Nassau, Suffolk and Westchester counties. Most pupils are at or near grade level academically, but they typically have demonstrated uneven performance. The school incorporates learning and organizational strategies into its academic program. The development of social skills and pragmatic language are also important elements of the program. Students in grades 9-12 attend a weekly community service class. The lower school campus, serving grades 3-8, operates in Flushing. The school accepts the following conditions: ADHD, Anxiety Disorders, Asperger's Syndrome, Auditory Processing Disorders, Discalculia, Dysgraphia, Dyslexia, Learning Differences, Nonverbal Learning Differences, Obsessive/Compulsive Disorder, Pervasive Development Disorder.
