The Northwest School
1415 Summit Ave, Seattle, WA 98122
Northwest's sequential college preparatory curriculum comprises academic, arts, international and athletic programs. The academic studies program, which seeks to improve critical-thinking, articulation and synthesizing skills, consists of math, science, language and humanities components. Pupils in all grades receive credit for both English and history through the core humanities program; students in grades 9-12 follow a chronological history of civilization sequence that progresses from 3000 BC to the present day. The arts program features required music, dance, theater and visual arts courses, all of which are taught by practicing artists. The boarding division serves international students only. The international program offers ESL courses and foreign exchange opportunities. The school operates an environment program in which all students clean and maintain the campus, each grade level goes on at least one major camping trip per year, and frequent wilderness excursions are offered.
