The Long Ridge School
478 Erskine Rd, Stamford, CT 06903
Founded as a nursery school in the home of educator Harriet Rowland, Long Ridge has gradually added elementary grades over the years. The school, which occupies 14 wooded acres in the Long Ridge section of the city, serves students from southern Connecticut and Westchester County, NY. At all grade levels, Long Ridge follows a hands-on, multisensory approach. Academic groupings are small and are adjusted to the needs and capabilities of students. Classes are integrated around a core theme and involve projects to maintain high levels of interest and to develop critical-thinking skills. Instructors employ developmentally appropriate methods and materials to promote successful learning experiences for every child. Strong emphasis is placed on the arts, science, computers and the environment. Spanish instruction begins in kindergarten.
