The International School of Monaco
12 Quai Antoine Premier, Monte Carlo, 98000 Monaco
This bilingual school, which serves students from approximately 35 countries, utilizes all three International Baccalaureate programs. Bilingual instruction begins in the inquiry-based early years program, in which teachers emphasize oral fluency. The primary unit (ages 7-11) follows an integrated approach that centers around the Primary Years Program. In grades 2-4, children spend alternate days learning in English and French; in grade 5, pupils spend 60 percent of their time learning in English and 40 percent in French, with the mornings devoted to English and the afternoons to French (along with sports and the arts). English becomes the predominant language of instruction in grades 6-8, with French remaining as the second official language and Spanish also part of the curriculum. Students in grade 10 prepare for the IGCSE examinations, then engage in the two-year IB Diploma Program. Boys and girls in grades 9-12 have increasing independence and subject choice.
