The Greenwood School The Greenwood School

Founded in 1978, Greenwood is a boarding and day school for young men in grades 6 through 12. Greenwood empowers bright and talented boys who face dyslexia, related language-based learning differences, ADHD, and executive function weakness with the skills necessary to bridge the gap between their outstanding promise and present abilities.

Greenwood offers comprehensive, individualized teaching balanced with an emphasis on enrichment programs designed to awaken students’ hidden talents. The result is a school that transforms lives by providing the best environment possible for students with learning differences to maximize their academic, social, and creative potentials.

Greenwood is unique–and very wonderful … The students cannot help but thrive in the Greenwood environment. The atmosphere at Greenwood is so positive, patient, supportive, and there are so many enriching activities that foster talent in music, art, shop, drama, sports and social awareness.

–Dr. Louisa Moats, nationally renowned linguist

MAXIMIZING POTENTIAL: Highly trained teachers using research-proven interventions custom build a program for each student. Structured, sequential teaching builds one skill at a time with hands-on, multisensory activities whenever possible. Specialists collaborate with teachers and residential staff. The result is comprehensive and innovative educational therapies that enable each student to find the success he deserves.

Greenwood provides support, structure and instruction from wake up until the boys go to bed at night. Organizational and self-monitoring skills are mastered through consistent structures, repetition, positive feedback, and collaboration. The boys gradually internalize the many external systems that set up success, gaining confidence and independence.

AWAKENING TALENTS: Greenwood strongly believes that discovering and developing talents is essential to educating the whole child. Enrichment classes are part of every student’s day. Interscholastic baseball, soccer and basketball teams are open to any boy who wishes to play. Students do community service, learn fencing, develop skateboard and bike-jumping skills, ride and hike on miles of wooded trails, fish and canoe at our 3-acre pond, ski, snowboard, sled, play ice hockey … and much more. We provide activities that meet the needs of every boy.

NURTURING COMMUNITY: Greenwood is a small community with a nurturing, family environment built on honesty, kindness and respect. Our students develop close relationships with their instructors. Much of the faculty lives on campus with their families and dogs, meals are family style, and everyone is on a first-name basis.

TRANSFORMING LIVES: “The most important thing I’m taking away from Greenwood is my thirst for knowledge. I never used to want to go to school at all.” Eric, age 15
