Located on a 600-acre campus in Caroline County, Benedictine serves children and young adults with mild to severe intellectual disabilities, autism or multiple handicaps. Benedictine's approach is to create a supportive therapeutic environment that assists the individual with reaching his or her potential. The year-round program seeks to help individuals gain as much independence as possible, learn to make wise use of leisure time, and learn to live and work in a community setting. Comprehensive and integrated programming is supplemented by psychological, psychiatric, social work, counseling, vocational/transitional, and speech and language services; assistive technology; computer training; adaptive physical education and aquatics; home management; 24-hour nursing; and occupational and physical therapy. Teaching, residential and related service staff work together in an integrated fashion to address pupils' needs. The school accepts the following conditions: Asperger's Syndrome, Autism, Down Syndrome, Intellectual Disabilities, Multiple Disabilities, Pervasive Development Disorder.
