The Barstow School
11511 State Line Rd, Kansas City, MO 64114
Founded by Wellesley graduates Mary L. C. Barstow and Ada Brann at the request of several prominent Kansas City families, the school currently offers a holistic liberal arts program that emphasizes college preparation. Barstow draws its diverse student body from Greater Kansas City and Johnson County, KS. A strong core of required courses is supplemented by electives in such areas as foreign languages, forensics, the social sciences and the arts. Pupils also benefit from a well-developed technology program. Beginning in grade 6 all students lease tablet computers, which are replaced before grade 10 with new models used until graduation. Boys and girls accumulate at least 40 hours of required community service prior to graduation. After-school enrichment activities, a comprehensive summer program and year-round extended care are available.
