The American School of Pachuca
Valle de Anahuac s/n, 42086 Pachuca, Hidalgo, Mexico
Founded as a company school by the Real del Monte Mining Company, this school offers a bilingual program that follows both American and Mexican courses of study. While a significant number of administrators and faculty members hail from the US, most pupils come from upper-middle-class Mexican households. The preschool, which serves children ages 3-5, features one native English-speaking teacher and one Mexican instructor. During the primary grades, students receive three hours of instruction daily in both Spanish and English. Junior high pupils study the English language, math, physical science and social studies in English, while taking all other courses in Spanish. Spanish-language instruction is provided weekly in computer and the arts. Located at an elevation of 8000 feet, the city of Pachuca lies north-northeast of Mexico City. Noteworthy colonial cities and pre-Columbian archeological sites are within a half-day's drive of the city.
