The American School in Japan

1-1-1 Nomizu, Chofu-shi, Tokyo, 182-0031 Japan

While this well-established school primarily serves American citizens living in Japan, it maintains a highly international student body. The US-style curriculum includes courses designed to explore the culture and history of Japan and East Asia. Kindergarten students enjoy Japanese arts and crafts, and Japanese language courses are taught at all grade levels in the elementary school and as an elective in the middle and high schools. Technology instruction is emphasized as students learn to conduct Internet research in grade 2, and middle school global studies pupils work in teams to create multimedia presentations. The rigorous college preparatory high school curriculum includes Advanced Placement courses and an array of electives. Exchange visits with Japanese students and field trips enhance cultural understanding.
