The Academy at Sisters
PO Box 5986, Bend, OR 97708
The academy provides academic, behavioral and emotional services for troubled, at-risk adolescent girls. Typical students have run away from home, chosen poor peer relationships, have boundary issues, have a history of poor academic performance or truancy, have substance-abuse problems, continually put themselves in dangerous situations and are considered to be beyond their parents' control. The school's individualized approach utilizes cognitive behavior therapy to effect behavioral change. Educational services address the needs of pupils with various learning styles, from those with mild learning disabilities to high achievers. Recreational pursuits make use of the academy's wilderness location: Downhill and cross-country skiing, snowboarding, rock climbing, rafting, canoeing and camping supplement traditional music, art and athletic offerings. Girls with active drug or alcohol issues and those on medication must be stabilized prior to admittance. The school accepts the following conditions: Conduct Disorder, Emotional Disturbances, Learning Differences, Mood Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Substance Abuse.
