The school, founded by Frances D. S. Tatnall in her home, moved in 1952 to its present 110-acre, wooded campus. The broad liberal arts curriculum is college preparatory and is enriched by public speaking, computer science, foreign languages, community service and athletics. Honors and Advanced Placement courses are available in many subjects. Tatnall places particular emphasis on the arts, with students of all ages taking part in a program that combines exposure, instruction and participation. Upper schoolers take a service learning course, then complete a compulsory, 40-hour community service project over a 12-month period by September of senior year. Junior and senior students may complete a professional internship in the field of their choice as an elective. Boys and girls of all ability levels choose from a wide selection of interscholastic sports, and various other activities are also available. In addition, the school operates a year-round extended-day program.
