Stuart Hall School

235 W Frederick St, PO Box 210, Staunton, VA 24402

The oldest girls' boarding school in Virginia, Stuart Hall was founded as Virginia Female Institute and was renamed in honor of Mrs. J.E.B. Stuart, who was principal for 19 years. Since its founding, the school has been affiliated with the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia. Boys first enrolled as day students in grades 6-8 in 1992, and in grades 9-12 in 1999. Stuart Hall effected a merger with Hunter McGuire School in the summer of 2007, resulting in the addition of a coeducational lower school (grades PS-5). The lower school occupies the former Hunter McGuire location in Verona. Within a Christian setting, the school offers a curriculum that includes an honors program beginning in grade 9 and a selection of AP courses. The school's well-developed fine arts program awards specialized diplomas to students who pursue concentrations in visual arts, theater or music. Pupils requiring academic support or assistance with their organizational or study skills may meet with Stuart Hall's learning resource specialists.
