RR 2, Okotoks, Alberta, T1S 1A2 Canada
The result of a 1971 merger of Strathcona School for Boys and Tweedsmuir Girls' School, this nondenominational school offers a basic curriculum supplemented by electives. The study of French begins in grade 1, Latin in grade 9. International Baccalaureate courses and diplomas that vary according to each student's level of achievement are offered. The on-campus location of the Wilson Coulee Observatory, which is operated by the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, provides students with an unusual opportunity to study astronomy under excellent conditions. The school's outdoor education program involves students at all grade levels in expeditions that range from cross-country skiing and mountaineering to hiking and canoeing. Recreational clubs and physical education are important aspects of STS's program. Opportunities include white-water canoeing, tennis, rugby, ice skating, basketball, gymnastics, track and field, swimming, golf and volleyball.
