St. Stephen's Episcopal School
6500 St Stephen's Dr, Austin, TX 78746
The school was founded by the Diocese of Texas under the leadership of Rt. Rev. John Hines. Rev. William Brewster, formerly of St. Mark's School in Southborough, MA, was headmaster of St. Stephen's from its founding until his death in 1953. The college preparatory curriculum stresses a thorough understanding of English, social studies, math, science and foreign language while featuring the fine arts. A course in theology is required for graduation, and independent study is available for advanced students. College counseling begins in grade 11. Private lessons in voice, instrumental music, acting, art, pottery and photography are offered. All middle schoolers complete a four-hour community service project annually, while boys and girls in grades 9-12 perform 12 hours of compulsory service each year. Opportunities to study abroad in Spain, China, Greece, France, Great Britain and Italy constitute the Summer Adventures Program. Students also take advantage of the cultural offerings of nearby cities.
