St. Rita School for the Deaf

A residential school for deaf and hard-of-hearing children, St. Rita School uses total communication—a combination of the oral method of lip reading and the manual method of communicating through signed gestures and finger spelling—in educating its students. Out-of-state and physically and educationally handicapped deaf children may enroll. SRSD administers entrance and placement tests measuring basic skills in reading, language and math to all applicants. The school accepts the following conditions: Aphasia, Apraxia, Auditory Processing Disorders, Autism, Deafness, Hearing Impairments, Nonverbal Learning Differences, Pervasive Development Disorder, Speech/Languague Impairments.
