St. Richard's Episcopal School
33 E 33rd St, Indianapolis, IN 46205
Affiliated with Trinity Episcopal Church and founded by Rev. G. Ernest Lynch in honor of St. Richard of Chichester, an English saint and scholar, this school patterned itself after Great Britain's parish day schools. St. Richard's first teachers, who were brought to the US from Britain specifically to teach at the school, imparted a British flavor that remains manifest today. Technology is an important element of the curriculum: all pupils have access to computers and to one on-site computer lab. French is required from transitional kindergarten through grade 5, while Spanish and Latin are added as foreign language options in the later grades. Chapel services are conducted daily. Interscholastic sports (with a no-cut policy) are available to students in grade 5 and above; intramural programs begin in grade 1. Students in grades 6 and 7 attend overnight retreats, and the eighth grade takes an annual graduation trip to Washington, DC, Monticello (VA) and Williamsburg, VA.
