St. Peter's Preparatory School
144 Grand St, Jersey City, NJ 07302
Located in the historic Paulus Hook section of the city, this Jesuit school offers a college preparatory curriculum enriched by Advanced Placement, honors and religion courses. All boys fulfill a two-year Latin requirement, and Prep maintains a strong fine arts department featuring courses that combine theory and practice. Technology forms an integral component of academic life at the school: Computers are employed extensively in science classes, and workstations in the computer center are available to students at lunchtime and after school (as well as in computer science courses). As part of the foreign language program, St. Peter's plans noncredit exchanges for students of German, French, Spanish and Italian. In addition to its formal exchange programs, Prep regularly conducts summer tours to such countries as France, Spain and Mexico. Boys perform 20 hours of annual community service during their freshman and sophomore years, then accumulate another 60 hours in grade 11.
