St. Martin's Episcopal School
225 Green Acres Rd, Metairie, LA 70003
Founded under the auspices of the Episcopal Church, this independent school provides a rigorous academic curriculum that features Advanced Placement and honors programs in most upper school disciplines. Graduation requirements include courses in foreign language, computer science and the fine arts, as well as a number of electives. Pupils also enroll in religion classes at all grade levels. A two-week senior internship project exposes each student to work placements before graduation in the areas of government, business, medicine, law, the arts and nonprofit organizations. St. Martin's facilitates concurrent enrollment with Tulane University, the University of New Orleans and the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts for academically qualified upperclassmen. St. Martin's introduces handheld computing devices in grades 3-5, and all boys and girls in grades 6-12 must possess a tablet computer for classroom use. Middle and upper school students take life skills courses that explore issues from substance abuse and stress management to decision making and self-esteem; in the upper school, a component addresses practical skills. Service projects begin in the lower school and culminate in a graduation requirement of 50 hours of direct, hands-on volunteering.
