Established by the Church of Saint Luke in the Fields, the school prepares boys and girls of all faiths for independent secondary schools and specialized public high schools. Located in a historic residential neighborhood in the West Village, the school sits on a two-acre enclosed block with tree-shaded gardens and playgrounds. The program at St. Luke's emphasizes the development of critical-thinking and academic skills using a variety of educational approaches and techniques. In addition to academics, students participate in a range of extracurricular activities. Chapel, comparative religion classes and service learning are important aspects of school life, as is outdoor education. Boys and girls in grades 7 and 8 perform 16 hours of required community service per year. After-school programming is available.
