St. John's School
2401 Claremont Ln, Houston, TX 77019
Founded under the direction of Alan Lake Chidsey, who had extensive experience in Eastern and Southwestern boys' schools, this school of interdenominational enrollment adheres to high academic standards. St. John's provides fine arts instruction at all grade levels and maintains numerous performing arts ensembles; computer courses are available in all divisions as well. Qualified boys and girls in grades 10-12 may engage in—and help design—an independent study project. Past projects have examined glassblowing; jewelry making; the production of films, plays, animation and musical CDs; and novel writing. Students may pursue semester programs and yearlong exchanges with other independent schools, or study in France, China, Italy or Spain through the School Year Abroad program. Schoolwide community service projects are organized in middle school. Upper school students generate and manage a yearlong calendar of service projects.
