St. Dominic's was established as the international branch of the Colegio do Bom Sucesso, which was founded more than a century ago in Belem by the Irish Dominican Sisters. The school provides English-medium instruction for children of the international community at all grade levels. The curriculum is geared towards ultimately preparing students for the IB examinations. Primary years (grades PS-6) course work includes Portuguese, Swedish, information technology and religion, in addition to the standard subjects. In grades 7-10, such classes as German, media studies, ethics and international studies join the curriculum. St. Dominic's final two years focus primarily on readying pupils for either vocational tests or the IB Diploma.
