Children with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities from the Milwaukee area receive ungraded academic instruction at this school, which limits enrollment to 12 students. Boys and girls along the autism spectrum may also enroll, at the school's discretion. Programming stresses social and attitudinal development, as well as life skills training. The sequential development educational program includes reading, math and language arts. SCDS seeks pupils with sufficient self-care skills and the potential for academic achievement. The school accepts the following conditions: ADHD, Asperger's Syndrome, Autism, Down Syndrome, Dyslexia, Intellectual Disabilities, Learning Differences, Pervasive Development Disorder.
