St. Andrew’s School is an independent, college preparatory school in grades 3-12 dedicated to academic excellence and personal achievement. This 100-acre campus is located in beautiful Barrington, Rhode Island.
St. Andrew’s School was founded in 1893 by Rev. William Merrick Chapin as a school for homeless boys. From these simple beginnings to its present role as a coeducational boarding and day college preparatory school, St. Andrew’s steadfastly maintains the same sense of purpose and concern for the individual. Each teacher is trained in strategies to teach using a multi-sensory approach to address the different ways students learn. The Upper School provides College-prep innovative academic programs with advising twice daily, competitive athletics, outstanding Arts, and a boarding program. Average class size of 10 students, with an overall student to faculty ratio of 5:1, and a twice-daily advisor program ensure that no student is overlooked and he or she receives the attention they need. The homelike community, nurturing environment, and the hands-on approach to learning and teaching help maintain close student-teacher relationships. St. Andrew’s students find that when they go to college, they are well prepared to handle the course work because they have a true understanding of how they learn and an awareness of the tools they need to achieve the best.
Over the years, St. Andrew’s School has attracted boarding students from all corners of the United States and other countries, including Canada, China, France, Germany, Greece, India, Israel, Jamaica, Japan, Montenegro, Senegal, South Korea, and Taiwan. The School is also committed to ensuring that our students who demonstrate need receive financial aid; the result is a student body that is economically and culturally diverse.
St. Andrew’s seeks to motivate each student to strive for his or her personal best in the classroom, athletics or creative pursuits, and in life, while offering strong faculty support in all areas of endeavor. Over the last decade, we have experienced significant growth in both enrollment and facilities. We opened a new Fitness Center, complete with a weight training room and state-of-the-art cardiovascular equipment. We also celebrated the recent addition of our Lower School. Our latest improvement has been the dining room with a completely updated kitchen and serving area in addition to additional space to accommodate the burgeoning enrollment. The new and updated facilities symbolize our ongoing commitment to nurturing and celebrating each student’s unique talents.
