St. Andrew's Episcopal School

8804 Postoak Rd, Potomac, MD 20854

St. Andrew's emphasizes thorough college preparation in a program that combines academics, the arts, athletics and spiritual life. After serving students in grades 6-12 for 30 years, the school merged with St. Francis Episcopal Day School, a coeducational day school for children in grades PS-3, in July 2008. The former St. Francis campus on River Road serves as the lower school location for St. Andrew's. An intermediate school, which opened with the addition of grade 4 in the fall of 2009 and extends through grade 6, operates at the main campus on Postak Road. In the lower school (grades PS-3), children gain an introduction to the major disciplines, as well as computers, Spanish, library skills and music. The experiential middle school program, which addresses the developmental needs of early adolescents, emphasizes problem solving and study skills in a structured setting. Building on the middle school program, the upper school (grades 9-12) incorporates sequential skill instruction in a college preparatory setting. Upper schoolers satisfy requirements in such areas as religion and the arts, complete an independent research paper, and fulfill a 120-hour community service requirement prior to graduation (including 60 hours during senior year). Expanded Advanced Placement and elective offerings are available to seniors as part of a consortium with four other local independent schools. Students and faculty convene once a week for all-school chapel.
