Located on a 45-acre campus near the Chattahoochee River, Springwood was established through the cooperative efforts of 13 founding members. The college preparatory curriculum includes specialized instruction in Spanish, art, music, computer and physical education, in addition to honors and Advanced Placement courses in all major disciplines. Students in grades 9-12 participate in an interim week each March that varies by grade level. Freshmen choose from an annually rotating selection of minicourses, while sophomores take day trips to museums, the theater, universities and other places of interest. Juniors complete community service throughout the area, and seniors observe professionals in areas of career interest. Springwood's community service curriculum commences in grades 7 and 8, when the school encourages boys and girls to perform five hours of annual service. Compulsory service begins in grade 9, during which pupils complete 10 service hours. The annual commitment grows to 20 hours in grade 10, 50 hours in grade 11 (including interim week) and 60 hours in grade 12 (including in-class hours).
