Sorenson's serves students with a history of problems with parents, substance abuse, low or nonexistent self-esteem, learning differences, running away, school dropping out or expulsion, or extreme mental stress. Utilizing professional counseling, group counseling and staff-student relationships, the school aims to help young people function successfully both at home and in society. Parental involvement is preferred but not compulsory. The school's maintains wilderness and work programs to teach students the importance of loyalty, respect, self-esteem, personal management, respect for property, cleanliness and trustworthiness. Sorenson's also serves as a licensed residential treatment facility that includes drug and alcohol treatment. Staff develop an individualized treatment plan for each child. Group counseling sessions and intensive one-on-one time with Sorenson staff members is part of treatment. The school accepts the following conditions: Aphasia, Asperger's Syndrome, Auditory Processing Disorders, Conduct Disorder, Dysgraphia, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Emotional Disturbances, Intellectual Disabilities, Learning Differences, Mood Disorder, Multiple Disabilities, Nonverbal Learning Differences, Obsessive/Compulsive Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Pervasive Development Disorder, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Speech/Languague Impairments, Sexually Abused, School Phobia, Substance Abuse.
