Situated on a 90-acre campus midway between Philadelphia and New York City, this school conducts a rigorous college preparatory program. Solebury's curriculum includes AP classes, honors courses in all disciplines, and opportunities for independent study. A number of electives and course work in computers and the arts are among the school's graduation requirements. Advanced middle school students may take some high school courses for credit. In mid-May, another element of the curriculum allows seniors in good standing to leave campus for three weeks to work as an apprentice or a volunteer, to conduct independent research, or to pursue a creative project. Each year, an academic theme promoting interdisciplinary learning is highlighted for which both faculty and students participate in summer reading, workshops, special films and assemblies, department presentations, weekend activities, play productions and art shows. In addition, Solebury offers a learning skills program for bright pupils with learning differences and, for international students, spring, summer and full-year programs in English as a Second Language. Students perform five hours of community service annually in middle school, then 10 hours per year in high school, totaling a minimum of 40 hours prior to graduation. In addition to a full interscholastic sports program, the school offers recreational rock climbing, horseback riding, golf and biking. Solebury schedules trips to such locations as France, Tanzania and Belize.
