Shore Country Day School
545 Cabot St, Beverly, MA 01915
With its roots in the Shore School and the North Shore Country Day School, the present school was incorporated in 1936. Courses in computer, science, world language, art, music, health and physical education enhance the traditional curriculum at all grade levels. Drama instruction is introduced in grade 4, and sports replace physical education in grades 6-9. The school's program was expanded in 1982 to include a readiness year for children of school age who are bright but not developmentally ready for kindergarten. The academic program culminates in a grade 9 curriculum that includes language, history, geometry, biology and major course electives in Latin, advanced studio art and advanced theater arts. Leadership and service opportunities, independent studies, a community code, camping and interdisciplinary trips are noteworthy aspects of Shore's program. Ninth graders perform 15 hours of required community service, while younger students participate in grade-specific service projects. Graduates enter leading preparatory boarding and day school programs at both ninth- and 10th-grade levels.
