Children with autism, Asperger's syndrome and pervasive developmental disorder receive treatment at Sheldon, which is a program of Vermont Achievement Center. The program focuses on treatment, family support and academic skills. Staff members tailor individual and group therapy, counseling and behavioral training to the student's specific needs. During the high school years, students ages 13-18 who are interested in developing the skills and acquiring the knowledge necessary for a career in food preparation or food services may enroll in a culinary arts program. Boys and girls learn to follow recipes, and instruction also addresses basic cooking techniques, kitchen safety and new ingredients. The school accepts the following conditions: Asperger's Syndrome, Autism, Pervasive Development Disorder.
