Shattuck-St. Mary's School
1000 Shumway Ave, PO Box 218, Faribault, MN 55021
One of the oldest boarding schools in the Midwest, Shattuck-St. Mary's was founded by Rev. James L. Breck as an Episcopal mission. Separate schools were established for boys and girls in the 1860s and merged in 1972. Today, the school is located on 250 acres on a wooded hilltop, 45 miles south of Minneapolis. The curriculum is college preparatory, with honors, accelerated and Advanced Placement courses offered in all major disciplines. The fine and performing arts curriculum is noteworthy for its scope, and courses in religion, ethics and values are available. Cultural, social and recreational opportunities include a full athletic program in interscholastic and intramural sports (featuring particularly strong ice hockey, soccer and figure skating programs), in addition to a diverse selection of on-campus organizations and activities. The middle school has separate faculty, facilities and programs.
