Founded as a boarding school by Ellen Q. Sawin, Sanford made the transition to a day school in the late 1970s. A capital campaign established in 2000 enabled the school to complete significant renovation and new construction on the 93-acre campus in the ensuing years. The liberal arts college preparatory curriculum features a world languages program that commences in junior kindergarten, humanities, studio and performing arts, an individualized reading program in the lower school, history, mathematics, sciences, computer science and Advanced Placement courses. An extensive athletic program and various other extracurricular options complement academics.
