San Marcos Academy

Situated on a 220-acre campus, SMA is affiliated with the Baptist General Convention of Texas. The curriculum emphasizes college preparation, and honors, Advanced Placement and dual-enrollment courses are available to qualified students. All first-year upper school boys who are US citizens participate in the Junior ROTC program for at least one semester; it is optional for girls and international students. The academy's honor program seeks the development of critical-thinking and independent research skills by means of small classes and technology-assisted learning. Course work in the fine arts, Christian studies, computer science and leadership supplements requirements in the traditional subjects. Upperclassmen may take Advanced Placement classes and may also earn college credit from Hardin-Simmons University through enrollment in dual-credit courses. A learning skills program serves students diagnosed with a mild to moderate learning differences. Among student activities are athletic options and fine arts offerings, in addition to an equestrian program.
