Saint Ann's School

129 Pierrepont St, Brooklyn, NY 11201

Saint Ann's was founded "with the express purpose of affording bright children an education specifically tailored to their needs." No letter or numerical grades are given, and from grade 4 on, students advance in different subjects from level to level according to ability and achievement rather than age. All teachers are specialists in their fields; music, art and theater are taught by professionals. The wide-ranging curriculum includes such offerings as organic chemistry, Chinese, Spanish and Russian literature. The school has both a horizontal structure (division into lower, middle and high schools) and a vertical structure (each academic department extends from grades 4-12 with no break in curriculum or staff), thus allowing for two channels of information about each student.
