Sacramento Waldorf School
3750 Bannister Rd, Fair Oaks, CA 95628
Through its artistic approach to education, the basis of the Waldorf philosophy, the school provides a firm foundation in the arts, the humanities and the sciences. With main lessons studied in blocks for several weeks at a time, objective scientific subjects are alternated with the humanities to give variety and rhythm to the school year. In grades 1-8, a teacher remains with his or her class as it advances each year, thereby giving each child security and confidence while deepening the teacher's responsibility for and knowledge of the pupil. Specialist teachers provide instruction in grades 9-12. Foreign language instruction commences in grade 1, when both German and Spanish are introduced. Students often attend Waldorf or other specialty schools in Europe, particularly Germany, for a quarter or semester. Sacramento Waldorf schedules field trips to local points of interest, and students in grades 4-12 take camping trips. Older pupils engage in 25 hours of required community service each year.
