Rudolf Steiner School
15 E 78th St, New York, NY 10075
Instruction at this school is based on the educational principles of Rudolf Steiner, who founded the first Waldorf school in 1919 in Stuttgart, Germany. Literature, history, modern languages, the sciences and mathematics form the core academic curriculum. Intensive academic seminars, skills courses that run throughout the year, and workshops for studio art, drama and practical arts enhance different learning tasks. Student exchanges may be arranged with Waldorf schools in Austria, France, Switzerland, Germany and Spain. Students in grades 9-11 perform 20 hours of community service annually, and seniors participate in a three-week vocational internship program before graduation. The lower school maintains a separate location on 79th Street.
