Originally located in Tanzania, the academy was established to provide an American education for the children of Mennonite missionaries in East Africa. Today, approximately 70 percent of the students enroll from North America, with the remainder coming from more than 30 countries. The US-based curriculum is supplemented by the study of African history and culture. Kiswahili is available as a foreign language, as are French, Spanish and Korean. The school occupies 40 acres in a residential area on the outskirts of the city.
