Rockland Country Day School
34 Kings Hwy, Congers, NY 10920
Founded in Nyack by a group of community leaders, RCDS moved to its present, 20-acre campus in 1962. The curriculum provides preparation for college and beyond, with an emphasis placed on critical-reading, problem-solving and writing skills. French and Spanish begin in kindergarten and remain part of the program through grade 12. Performing and visual arts courses are elements of the core curriculum. Upper schoolers choose from various honors and Advanced Placement courses. Fitness for Life, the school's health and wellness program, is a course requirement at all grade levels. Outdoor programs, including work in RCDS' organic garden, seek to develop self-reliance and class cohesiveness. In fall 2012, after years of providing older international students with host family living accommodations, RCDS opened an on-campus boarding division for both international and domestic students beginning at age 14.
