Riverview serves adolescents without significant behavioral or emotional problems who have complex language, learning and cognitive disabilities. Students, who have an IQ between 70 and 100, typically have experienced lifelong difficulties in academics and in making friends. The thematic, integrated program features academic, remedial and computer course work, while also addressing independent living skills and social skills development. The program includes small, individualized academic classes, as well as reading, speech and language therapies. Speech/language pathologists and reading specialists provide assistance as needed. Structured evening and weekend programs offer support and are an important element of Riverview's predictable learning environment. All juniors take part in a weekly community service program.
