Ravenscroft was operated by Christ Episcopal Church from its founding until 1968, when it was turned over to an independent board of trustees. The school is named for Rt. Rev. John Stark Ravenscroft, the first Episcopal bishop of North Carolina. In 1970, the school moved from its original location on Tucker Street to its present, 125-acre campus on the northern edge of Raleigh and expanded to include an upper school. Ravenscroft draws its students primarily from Raleigh and the surrounding communities. In addition to including Advanced Placement courses in every discipline, the college preparatory program incorporates an array of summer programs and off-campus learning experiences. Boys and girls fulfill course requirements in English, math, science, social studies, foreign language and physical education. Pupils also perform at least 20 hours per year of mandatory community service in the upper school grades.
