Poughkeepsie Day School
260 Boardman Rd, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603
PDS was founded by Vassar College faculty and local families with the purpose of "advancing the cause of liberal and progressive education." The school's 35-acre campus overlooking the Catskill Mountains includes historic Kenyon House, a Mediterranean-style mansion. Influenced by the theories of John Dewey and Jean Piaget, the student-centered program utilizes an interdisciplinary, problem-solving approach to academic and creative study. The school utilizes mixed-age groupings throughout. PDS requires community service participation, either on campus or in the larger Poughkeepsie area, of all middle and upper school students. In addition, all diploma candidates must complete a month-long, off-campus senior internship.
