Portledge School Portledge School

Portledge School was founded in 1965 with the mission of “providing an atmosphere of warmth and friendliness where the joy of learning and excitement of discovery are encouraged, shared and emphasized equally with the acquisition of knowledge, academic skills and the rigor of intellectual discipline.” Almost fifty years later, the academic ethos of the school remains close to the founder’s original mission.

Portledge is an independent school, pre-nursery through grade 12, with 360 students and 80 faculty members. The Portledge academic program offers a comprehensive college prep curriculum that is vertically integrated and develops students age two through eighteen with 21st century skills. Lower School offers Reggio Emilia, a world-renowned student-centered program, especially nurturing for young children; Middle School fosters independence and creativity; and the Upper School builds scholarship, confidence, character and citizenship.

The curriculum is presented in small class instruction and is designed to be progressively rigorous, challenging the motivated student who wants more. Our goal is to offer the best possible academics, in a warm and personal environment that aims to inspire and enrich all children, helping them to realize their full potential. Competitive athletics, expansive art programs (visual, music and theater) and experiential education are all intrinsic parts of the Portledge education.

Tour the beautiful 60-acre campus and meet faculty members who share a deep commitment to ensuring that every child participates, belongs, and succeeds. Stop by and discover “The Portledge Experience!” Portledge is located at 355 Duck Pond Road in Locust Valley. Call 516-750-3100 or visit www.portledge.org.
