Portland Lutheran School
740 SE 182nd Ave, Portland, OR 97233
Founded as Concordia Academy to prepare young men for the Lutheran ministry, PLS gradually evolved into a Christian, coeducational elementary and secondary school, culminating in the assumption of its present name in 1989. The school now offers a broad education in the humanities, math, science, language arts and the fine arts. As part of the college preparatory high school curriculum, qualified students in grades 10-12 may enroll in honors or Advanced Placement classes, as well as in college-level courses at the nearby Concordia University. Religious education is part of everyday school life. In addition, all high schoolers fulfill a 20-hour annual community service requirement. For an additional fee, PLS maintains a program for middle and high school international students. ESL instruction assists international pupils with English pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary development, writing skills and conversational skills.
