Play English, The Bilingual School of Monza
Via Confalonieri 18, 20052 Monza, Milan, Italy
Enrolling children from age 1, this primary school utilizes a play-centered approach to learning. Both Italian pupils and children of the international community engage in a bilingual program that allows them to gain fluency in two languages. The curriculum follows the guidelines set forth by the Italian and British ministries of education. Upon departure from the school, students are able to transition easily into either an English- or an Italian-language school. In the early years, most subjects employ English as the language of instruction; as the student progresses, however, more and more course work is taught in Italian. Mixed-ability teaching accommodates children of varying aptitudes and allows students in need to receive extra attention. Use of the computer, drama activities and music serve as important language-learning tools. The curriculum comprises four main areas: language and literacy; mathematics, science and information technology; history, geography and social sciences; and the expressive arts. Music, choir, sports, art, ceramics, drama and interest clubs are among the Bilingual School's extracurriculars.
